Hello and Welcome to Victoria Virgo.com

WelcomeHello and welcome to Victoria Virgo.com. This is the first post for my “new” blog. The “new” is highlighted because I have had this website for quite a while. I was using it as a hub because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about.

Branding, Branding, Branding
Coming from a marketing background I know about the importance of branding. I know that you need to have a clearly defined message so that people understand what they are reading or looking at. If you want visitors to return to your blog, you have to be on point about your topic so that if a visitor returns, they know exactly what they are going to find.

For example, if your passion is salsa dancing and you write about salsa dancing lessons, the music, the clothing, the moves and the people involved in that arena, then visitors who are interested in all things dance will gladly return to your blog each time you publish a new post. They will know what to expect.

If your passion is travel and you write about the different places you have visited, the different things you have experienced on the road and the different types of hotels, hostels and camping sites you have stayed at, people who are interested in travel will know that type of posts to expect from you so they will happily return to read about your next epic adventure.

Er….. So What is My Brand?
Now the problem is that I love salsa dancing. I love to travel, I like working out how to make money online, I love writing, I love entertaining people with little tidbits of this and that.

How can I write a blog when I can’t narrow down my interests so that it doesn’t become a completely confusing mess of messages?

The Solution: Call it a Lifestyle Blog and write about what you like. The thread that unites all the things that I like to write about is – me. Yep, little old me πŸ™‚

Now I don’t know if people will be interested in reading about what I like to get up to in my life here in London town or how I am trying to make money online so that I can create the lifestyle that I want. So I thought I would just write and see what happens.

What Will Readers Take Away from This Blog?
With this “new” blog the idea is to fufill the following brief. I hope that people – you – will visit this blog and be:

  • Inspired – to try new things
  • Motivated – to get things done
  • Entertained – and smile or even laugh
  • Educated – and learn new things

Have Your Say: Please feel free to share your thoughts and insights in the comment sections of the posts and hopefully we will be able to help each other to live our best lives.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to getting to know you πŸ™‚

Thank you so much Ash – I have missed seeing you around the place. Such a shame you gave up on your blog The Methodical Teenager. I think that it would have been a real success. You should of starting one up again. I can just tell that you are going to be a success story. Would be great to read about your journey πŸ™‚

I love it Victoria! I’ve thought about something similar because I love writing about various topics but I ended up just making a different niche site for everything. I have my main blog of course writing about my passive income, but I often feel it’s out of place to write about personal…even thought it’s my own website and my own name is my domain. So many times though I’ve wanted to get on there and vent about something or share a funny store. I’m looking forward to reading your new blog.

Thanks Misty – I know exactly what you mean. Hard to know what fits and what doesn’t right? Well, I don’t know how this blog will work exactly but it is best to give it a go and see what happens. πŸ™‚

Victoria, I so relate to what you and Misty are talking about. I’ve always felt kind of weird blogging at my domain name. I’m wondering if this struggle is a gender thing. Like I’ve heard guys talk about they look at life as segments – there’s the box for work, then the box for play, then another box for family, etc.

Yet, most of the women I’ve talked to seem to have one giant box with everything in it. So, maybe it’s that women and men run their blogs and online businesses differently? It’s just a theory and obviously, it’s pretty general. But I’d love to hear what you and Mindy think. πŸ˜€

I have a feeling that it has more to do with the fact that women have a lot more that they want to share with others. They have stories that cross the boundries of most types of blogs so it gets a bit challenging. You either open up several blogs and write in different places, or you just plop it all in one place and see what happens.

There will be some readers who are interested in that type of eclectic blog and some that aren’t . We cannot choose our readers. I just hope to find readers who like what I am about to do πŸ™‚
