Amelia – A Flash Fiction Story

Amelia smiled at the nurse. She had just received the best news—today was her last visit.

She no longer needed her dressings changed. The wound had healed perfectly.

Six weeks ago, she had stared in the mirror, the reflection showing the gaping hole in her stomach after her stoma reversal surgery. The small intestine that once protruded from her body was no longer needed.

The tumour was gone. Her large intestine had healed. She could use the bathroom like everyone else.

This visit marked the end of a chapter. She couldn’t wait to see what life had in store next.
