Bailey – A Flash Fiction Story

Bailey was anxious, holding the phone in one hand while nervously biting what was left of her nails on the other hand. She was on hold, waiting for news that would determine her future. She had tried to be patient and wait for a letter, but the suspense was unbearable.

She needed to know now—if she could make plans, if she had to keep pretending to be strong and brave. Finally, a voice came on the line. “Thank you for holding, Bailey. The news is good. You are cancer free.”

Silence followed on the phone.

“Bailey?” the voice gently asked.
