Nala washed her face and peered at her reflection in the mirror. The cold water helped. She was still tired, but her eyes, at least, looked a little more alert.
The baby had been restless and needed her constant attention. Each time she tried to place him back in his crib, he would grumble and start to cry. He was angry, upset, and uncomfortable because he was teething.
Nala could see the beginning of a tooth pushing through the gum line. She wished she could do more but had to be content with holding her baby close and stroking his back and waiting for him to calm down.
Today was supposed to be Nala’s first day back at work, but how could she leave her precious little one?
