Wanda – A Flash Fiction Story

Wanda woke up before the alarm went off. She hadn’t slept well. She was nervous about the morning that lay ahead.

Last week she received a phone call from the doctor’s office. She had been informed that it was time for her to get the vaccination. She was in the vulnerable group.

Wanda was 74 years old. Thankfully, she was healthy and robust, but she hated needles. She always went to get her flu jab. But George had always been by her side.

This year it would be different. She turned to look at the photo on the bedside table.

This time there was no George to hold her hand.
